NASA releases a new image of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field in Infra Red

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field is mind-blowing. It's like the anecdote we used to hear when we were kids about how the universe has as many planets as the earth has grains of sands. It turns out that was way off - It's more like the universe has as many galaxies as the earth has grains of sands.

Consider the fact that there are are about 10,000 galaxies in the HUDF, and the size of the picture is about as big as a tennis ball would look from 100m away.

This new image is focused on the same area, but it was taken with a new camera on the Hubble Space Telescope.

Amazing.

  1. The Hubble has a tiny mirror. Imagine what we could see if it was 10m or 20m. We can do it easily! Well ok maybe not easy, but we should do it, no matter the cost.
